Rafa Benitez is set to drop a bombshell on Newcastle United’s Jack Colback according to the Shields Gazette, who have revealed that the 27-year old midfielder WILL NOT be included in his 25-man squad for the new Premier League season.
Colback was not involved in the club’s final pre-season friendly against Hellas Verona on Sunday, failing to make even the match day squad, however has played some part over pre-season, including appearances against Hearts, Mainz and Preston.
The former Sunderland midfielder always gave his all, however it has been evident over the past few years that he is not cut out to play in the top flight of English football and a move away may be the best for all parties.
Unlike the transfer listed Lazaar, Krul and Riviere, he has not been told to train with the Academy, but the Gazette report he is now up for sale – although his current wage may off put any potential Championship suitors.
With Shelvey, Merino, Hayden and Diame all preferred options in midfield, Colback’s time at Newcastle appears to be up.
An honest player and one who, for his efforts, does not deserve the flack he receives, but it must be said that his ability has been in question for several seasons now.
