According to reports from French outlet L’Equipe, Newcastle United are currently considering a swoop for Saint-Etienne forward Jonathan Bamba.
Newcastle United suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener on Sunday and it was clear to see during the encounter that the Magpies were lacking that cutting edge in front of goal.
As a result, it is widely expected that manager Rafael Benitez will be bringing a new striker to St. James’ Park before the end of the current transfer window and Arsenal star Lucas Perez has strongly been linked with a move recently.
Now in fresh reports from French outlet L’Equipe, claims are being made that Newcastle are also looking at the possibility of acquiring the services of Saint-Etienne attacker Jonathan Bamba.
Bamba is a talented youngster who is very highly rated in Ligue 1 and the French Under-21 international could prove to be a good signing for Newcastle as he is said to be available for around only £4.5million.
While the 21-year-old is surely not ready to spearhead Newcastle’s attack as of yet, he could be a good alternative to the misfiring Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is set for a move away from Tyneside this summer.
