The agent of Greek international goalkeeper, Orestis Karnezis, has claimed that his client could end up at Newcastle United this summer.
Newcastle United clearly have a lot of strengthening to do before the end of the transfer window but it look liked signing a new goalkeeper would not be a priority due to the fact that the Magpies headed into the summer with the likes of Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, Tim Krul and Matz Sels present in the squad.
However, it now looks like Newcastle will need to bring in a new custodian as Sels has been allowed to make a move to Anderlecht on loan while the likes of Darlow and Krul continually get linked with moves away from St. James’ Park.
It does look like Elliot will be manager Rafa Benitez’s first choice this season but the Spaniard will surely have to bring in a backup for the Republic of Ireland international.
Now according surprise claims, Greek international goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis could well be on his way to Tyneside, if comments from his agent, Vasileios Panagiotakis, are to be believed.
Panagiotakis was quoted saying to Calcio Napoli 24, “Karnezis will play in England for one from Watford, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace. The Napoli option is now definitively off the table.”
While Panagiotakis has not definitively said that Karnezis will be joining Newcastle as there is interest from other English clubs as well, it has to be said that the Udinese goalkeeper would be a decent addition to the Magpies lineup as he has a lot of experience under his belt at both the club and international level.
