The highly controversial Joey Barton has gone on to explain why Rafael Benitez will leave Newcastle United before Christmas.
Rafael Benitez conducted a brilliant job in getting Newcastle United into the Premier League at the first go last season but the air of positivity surrounding the Championship triumph has quickly dissipated over the summer.
Benitez has clearly not been given the required funds to sufficiently improve his squad by owner Mike Ashley and even though the Premier League campaign as already kicked off, the Spaniard has not been able to assemble the squad he probably would have wanted.
While it is expected that Benitez will be allowed to bring in a couple of new players to St. James’ Park before the end of the summer transfer window, landing his main targets looks difficult and the 57-year-old might well have to settle with alternative options.
Former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has now gone on to slam Ashley for not allowing Benitez money to spend this summer and has explained that the manager will leave St. James before Christmas as he will get disillusioned working under the stingy owner of the Magpies.
He said on Kick Off, “Newcastle is a great club, but the owner causes a lot of problems. It’s his way or the highway. I can’t see Benitez staying there until Christmas.
“Ashley’s interview on TV was silly because it draws everybody in and makes it a soap opera because Rafa has to responded and has to take a side.
“I believe Benitez wants to go. His body language says Ashley has not come through with what he wanted this summer, and that means he feels he won’t have the opportunity to establish Newcastle in the top half of the Premier League.”
