Newcastle United legend Shay Given believes that former Stoke City teammate Joselu will be a decent signing for the Magpies.
Rafael Benitez has faced a lot of frustration in his hopes of strengthening Newcastle’s attacking department after missing out on the signings of Sandro Ramirez as well as Tammy Abraham so far this summer.
While Newcastle do possess the prolific Dwight Gayle, it was evident to see during the 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur that Benitez’s side are lacking cutting edge up front and as a result, the Spaniard has been relentlessly looking to bring in a new striker to St. James’ Park in recent weeks.
There have been widespread reports that Stoke City attacker Joselu has been targeted by Newcastle and in recent developments, the Spaniard is already said to have completed a medical with the Tyneside based outfit.
Now former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given has given his verdict about on, having played alongside him at the Bet365 Stadium, and has stated that the 27-year-old will be a good addition to the ranks at St. James’ Park.
Given said, “Joselu is a player I know from Stoke – I think he’d be a good signing but I think they need three or four new signings, not just the one.
“It’s such a hot bed of football, they live and breathe their football and they’re all waiting for breaking news that Newcastle have signed X, Y and Z. I think Rafa is probably watching the breaking news himself.”
