As reported by the Sun, Newcastle United will have to splash as much as £20million in order to sign Sam Clucas from Hull City.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is currently looking to improve his attacking options but it does look like the Spaniard will have to recruit a new midfielder as well, due to the questionable temperament of Jonjo Shelvey as well as the fact that Jack Colback is on the verge of leaving the club.
Everton’s James McCarthy has strongly been touted with a move to St. James’ Park in recent weeks while Hull City star Sam Clucas is also believed to be one of the targets for Benitez.
Clucas has been one of the most crucial players for Hull City since joining the club back in 2015 and although the Tigers failed to avoid relegation last season, the 26-year-old was one of the top performers throughout the campaign.
As a result, Newcastle are said to have expressed an interest in signing Clucas in recent times but as a huge blow, the Sun have claimed that Hull will not allow the Englishman to leave the KCOM Stadium for less than £20million.
Considering that Clucas only has two years remaining on his current deal, Hull are looking to cash in as much as they can this summer but the midfielder is clearly overpriced and considering Newcastle’s transfer budget, the move is unlikely to be coming into fruition anytime soon.
