According to reports from the Shields Gazette, the Newcastle United squad is currently holding talks with the club hierarchy regarding the season’s bonus sheet.
Newcastle United have made a poor start to their Premier League campaign so far with two consecutive defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town and there is certainly a lot of negativity surrounding the club at the moment.
There are a lot of reasons behind Newcastle’s struggles at the moment and one of them could be the fact that the players have not yet agreed upon bonuses for the year despite the season already commencing.
As reported by the Shields Gazette, the Magpies’ squad are still in discussion regarding bonus payments for the 2017/18 campaign and they have until the start of next month to agree upon the fees for the season.
The players as well as the backroom staff pocketed a cool £5million from their promotion winning campaign last term and they are expecting improved bonus offers from the club this term as Newcastle are set to bank more than £100million from the Premier League.
While it is normal for players to pocket lucrative bonuses in the English top flight, such discussions should perhaps have been resolved by Newcastle United before the start of the season and the uncertainty seems to be affecting the players’ performances on the pitch.
