Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has stated that the Magpies need not be negative so early into the season.
With only two matches of the Premier League campaign being played out, there is already a sense of doom and gloom surrounding Newcastle United at the moment.
The Magpies have lost their first two matches of the season in disappointing defeats against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town, and manager Rafael Benitez is currently not happy with the club hierarchy for their refusal to sufficiently back him in the transfer window.
Many have gone on to claim that Newcastle look favourites for relegation at the current state of affairs and it is certainly a bit surprising to see so much negativity surrounding the club during such an early stage of the season.
Club captain Jamaal Lascelles is certainly not impressed with all the bleak prediction regarding Newcastle and has urged everyone associated with the club to adopt a more positive outlook in order to lift the spirits of the players.
Lascelles told the Chronicle, “Now is not the time to be negative at all. We are listening to the manager and working our socks off in training. We have got good stuff going on here, and we have a lot more to bring to the table.
“We were in the Championship last season and we lost our first two games then. The same thing has happened now but we are in the Premier League.
“We have to stay positive and take positives from both opening games because I think there are quite a few. We have had two difficult games so far. A win against Nottingham Forest in the cup will give us confidence.”
