Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that defender Florian Lejeune will have a strong chance of featuring in the clash against West Ham United this weekend.
Newcastle United’s misery was compounded following a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and it goes without saying that manager Rafael Benitez is already under a lot of pressure to deliver positive results.
Up next for Newcastle is a clash against West Ham United at St. James’ Park and considering the fact that the Hammers are also under huge pressure to win, claiming a result this weekend will be anything but easy for the Magpies.
Amid all the doom and gloom surrounding Newcastle at the moment though, they have been handed some positive news as manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that centre-back Florian Lejeune could be fit in time to feature during the encounter.
When asked for an update on the defensive duo of Paul Dummett and Lejuene, Benitez said, “Dummett will take a little bit longer – so we must wait.
“Florian Lejeune is working very hard and trying to be available as soon as possible. The Nottingham Forest game was too early, for West Ham he will have a chance.”
Lejeune has missed the last two matches due to an injury suffered in the opening day defeat against Tottenham Hotspur and the return of the Frenchman will surely improve Newcastle’s shaky looking backline.
