According to reports, Newcastle United are among the three teams currently eyeing up a swoop for Burnley attacker Ashley Barnes.
Newcastle United slumped to their third consecutive defeat in a row after going down 3-2 at home against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and the Magpies are currently in a desperate situation on the pitch.
The defeat against Forest highlighted the fact that Newcastle’s squad need strengthening during the final week of the summer transfer window and manager Rafael Benitez will surely be looking to acquire a new striker in the coming days.
A host of names have been linked with Newcastle recently and now according to reports, claims are being made that the Magpies are currently keen on acquiring the services of Burnley star Ashley Barnes.
Burnley recently splashed a club record £15million to sign Chris Wood from Leeds United and the arrival of the New Zealand international means that Barnes has been pushed down the pecking order at Turf Moor.
As a result, Barnes has been touted to leave Burnley in the upcoming days and the likes of Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town are monitoring the 27-year-old along with Newcastle United.
Barnes’ record of 14 goals in 98 appearances for Burnley is anything but impressive and Newcastle should perhaps look elsewhere to ease their goalscoring woes.
