According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Newcastle United have turned down the opportunity to sign Rui Patricio in a cash plus player deal.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has been in the market to sign a new goalkeeper this summer after seemingly losing faith in the trio of Matz Sels, Tim Krul and Karl Darlow, and the likes of Jose Reina and Willy Caballero have been linked with the Magpies this summer.
Evidently, Newcastle have not been able to sign either Reina or Caballero but it is still expected that Krul and Darlow will be leaving St. James’ Park before the end of the summer transfer window in less than a week’s time.
Understand Newcastle were offered Portuguese international goalkeeper Rui Patricio for £8m + Tim Krul but they said no.

Therefore, it will be of paramount importance for Newcastle to sign a new goalkeeper in the coming days and Portugal international Rui Patricio has been mentioned as a potential target for the Tyneside based outfit.
Now according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Newcastle were offered the services of Patricio by his club Sporting Lisbon for around £8million plus the unwanted Krul but the Magpies have decided not to take up the opportunity.
Newcastle are currently looking to sell Krul to another Portuguese side in Benfica and this might be the reason why they have rejected the approach from Sporting.
