According to reports from the Chronicle, Newcastle United have been linked with a surprise £8million swoop for Icelandic international striker Vidar Orn Kjartansson.
Newcastle United’s need to sign a new striker this summer has been well documented and with the likes of Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic said to be departing St. James’ Park before the end of the summer transfer window, the Magpies will surely need to bring in someone in the coming days to bolster their attacking lineup.
Inter Milan’s Stevan Jovetic was strongly linked with a move to St. James’ Park over the past few days but it now looks like the Montenegro international has decided on a move to Ligue 1 with Monaco instead.
As a result, Newcastle now have had to focus on striking targets elsewhere and according to reports from the Chronicle, the Magpies are currently eyeing up a move for Icelandic international Vidar Orn Kjartansson.
Kjartansson is currently plying his trade for Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv and he enjoyed a stunning campaign last term, scoring 24 goals in 44 league appearances in all competitions.
Due to such exploits the 27-year-old has attracted the interest from a number of top clubs across Europe and Newcastle are now said to have entered the race, with the Tyneside based outfit believed to be readying a bid of around £8million.
