Hatem Ben Arfa is without doubt one of the most talented players i’ve seen play at St. James’ park, however the latest development at his current club PSG shows just what a wasted talent he has become.
The former Mag secured a move to French giants PSG last summer after an outstanding season at Nice – bagging 18 goals and 6 assists – however he has since made just 6 starts and has now been sent to train with the reserves after refusing the club’s attempts to move him on this summer.
Ben Arfa’s unique ability to take on 5 players and smash a 25 yard thunderbolt into the top corner was a rare talent. He was a match-winner capable of producing moments of magic, but all too often has he fallen out of favour with managers and scuppered promising spells in his career.

His latest situation, seeing him banished to the reserves and left out of PSG’s Champions League squad, shows just how things can implode for the enigmatic Frenchman.
There will always be calls to bring him back to Newcastle, and whilst we are crying out for a player of his talent and match-winning ability, he is the last player you’d expect to see in a Rafa Benitez team.
For old times sake, here’s Ben Arfa at his brilliant best in black and white:
