NUFC new boy Mikel Merino continues to impress following his immaculate display in our win over West Ham, with the midfielder scoring a superb goal and providing a pinpoint assist in Spain U-21’s 3-0 win over Italy over the international break.
As can be seen below, Merino received the ball on the edge of the box with a lot to do, yet effortlessly nutmegging his man and sliding the ball into the bottom corner to open to scoring for Spain:

The 21-year old then played an instrumental part in Spain’s second, winning the ball back in midfield before slipping an eye of the needle pass to put Borja Mayoral through on goal to make it 2-0:

It’s early days in his Newcastle career, but if he continues to show the sort of promise he showed in our 3-0 win over West Ham, we may have one of the bargains of the summer on our hands.
