VIDEO: Jonjo Shelvey almost scores outrageous goal in U-23 appearance against Norwich

After a month out of action following his red card against Spurs on the opening day, Newcastle handed Jonjo Shelvey some valuable minutes for the U-23’s at St. James’ Park last night – and the midfield maestro very nearly scored a sensational goal.

Newcastle were lining up against Norwich U-23’s after two wins in their opening three games in the Premier League 2 and fielded a strong side, including ‘senior’ players Shelvey, Aarons and Woodman.

Shelvey played the full 90 and saw this audacious first-half effort go narrowly wide:

Newcastle ended up surrendering a 2-0 lead, with the game ending 2-2, however it would’ve been worth the entry fee for all who turned up if this one had went in!

This is of course isn’t the first time Shelvey has tried such an audacious effort from the half-way line. Here’s his incredible centre-circle strike for Swansea back in 2014:
