Surprise stat shows how Benitez has already broken a Premier League record NUFC last set in 2011

An interesting stat has came to the fore following Sunday’s win, with back to back wins over West Ham and Swansea meaning this is the earliest we have had TWO top flight wins on the board since 2011 – the famous season where we finished 5th in the Premier League.

It took Steve McClaren’s Newcastle until 7th November 2015 (12 games in) to register our second win of the season in the 2015/16 campaign, whilst Alan Pardew’s NUFC hadn’t won twice in the league until 26th October 2014 (9 games in) in the 2014/15 season, highlighting how Benitez has helped us to a better start then we’ve been used to in recent Premier League seasons.

We are just 4 games into the new season and whilst early defeats to Tottenham and Huddersfield placed a seed of doubt over Tyneside, recent back to back wins over West Ham now see us sat inside the top 10, taking us to our best tally after four games since the successful season of 2011/12:

It’s early days, but this serves as a nice reminder that, despite the doubters, we have enjoyed a pretty decent start to life back in the Premier League.

Here’s hoping for more of the same on Saturday, with Stoke City on Saturday offering the opportunity to make it three in a row.
