Rafa Benitez took part in his weekly pre-match press conference today ahead of Sunday’s game at Brighton and suggested that NUFC new boy Florian Lejeune will miss out after ankle treatment.
The Frenchman has only featured once this season, starting on the opening day against Spurs, however he was forced off after a late challenge from Harry Kane saw him leave St. James’ Park on crutches.
He suffered ankle ligament damage and, after missing Huddersfield and West Ham, he has been an unused substitute in wins over Swansea and Stoke.
We had expected him to be back in the squad once again for our trip to Brighton on Saturday, however Benitez has confirmed he is ‘having treatment’ on his ankle once again, with Shields Gazette reports Miles Starforth claiming Lejeune WILL miss Sunday’s game:
Rafa says Florian Lejeune has "a little discomfort in his ankle" and Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara are still injured #NUFC

Not a big concern for us given the form of Lascelles and Clark (who I would’ve expected to start anyway), but hopefully Lejeune can return to full fitness soon enough. He was hugely impressive over pre-season and could bring an air of class and calmness to the back four if his previous displays are anything to go off.
You got one thing right it was a horror challenge a real leg braker ref scared to red card him as the fa would of drop him from prem games as he’s England’s best striker well so they say and we have done okay without Florian Lejeune so not really a major concern let’s just get 3 points and we will all be happy or and a Sunderland loss of course
