Jamaal Lascelles sends brutally honest yet brilliant message to the fans about this NUFC team

Jamaal Lascelles put in another captain’s performance yesterday to help us to a hard fought draw with Liverpool and had some superb words to say after the game, claiming we don’t have any stars at NUFC, but are a team of ‘hungry’ players who ‘wear the badge with pride.’

The 23-year old is the Premier League’s youngest captain and has been a revelation so far this season. He made the headlines and caught the eye of England scouts in match winning displays over Swansea and Stoke and put in towering display on Sunday to help keep Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at bay.

After the game he spoke on BBC Radio 5 live, with this honest statement standing out:

‘We have no big time players. We’re a hungry, young team who wear the badge with pride.’

Brutally honest from the skipper, who suggests we do not have any ‘big time’ stars, however yesterday’s display shows just how much hunger this team has.

They dug in and ran themselves into the ground against a supremely talented Liverpool side, defending the badge of Newcastle United and ‘wearing it with pride’ as they gave it all they had in another spirited display.

Lascelles ‘gets it’ and it’s great to see him backing up his wise words with equally mature performances on the pitch.

  1. Totally agree with lascelles. He’s playing well and showing how good a captain he can be. A kind of player we’ve needed since Alan Shearer.
