It’s that time of the week again. The ‘experts’ are out in force giving their predictions for this weekend’s Premier League games and Paul Merson has had his say on Newcastle once again. And guess what? He’s predicting we’ll lose, once again.
To say Sky Sports’ Paul Merson hasn’t had much faith in Rafa Benitez’s side so far this season really is an understatement.
So far, he’s predicted us to get a point at Huddersfield and Brighton and another at home to Stoke, but that’s as good as it gets. He had West ham to beat us 0-2, said Swansea would have ‘too much for us’ and didn’t see us coping with Liverpool – a game we gained a well earned point from.
The former Villa man had failed to predict a single win in our previous 7 games so far this season and that trend goes on here, with Paul expecting Southampton to bounce back and beat us on Sunday:
“Southampton are a funny team who don’t score enough goals. I know people will be surprised that I’d say they will win this 2-0 but I just think sooner or later something has to happen and they need to start entertaining otherwise Mauricio Pellegrino is going to be in trouble.
“They sacked the last manager because he was not entertaining enough and the new manager is no different so far. Newcastle had a good result against Liverpool but I also look at their last away game when they lost at Brighton.”
Merson admits Southampton don’t score enough goals, admits they are under pressure to win and therefore gives no real explanation as to why things will suddenly start going right for Southampton on Sunday – yet he has them to win anyway.
Quite comically, he claims people might be ‘surprised’ with his prediction. As a Newcastle fan, I’m sure we can all agree that Paul Merson predicting Newcastle United to lose is no major shock!
We’d be second bottom in the league on just 3 points if Merson’s predictions had come to life. Instead we go into this weekend’s game on 10 points, comfortably placed in the top half of the table.
As we’ve shown so far this season, our results are often the opposite of what he predicts, so here’s hoping we can prove him wrong once again this weekend!
I,m not surprised he has predicted a loss yet again for Newcastle. This man can’t say a good word about us, ever!
Southampton don’t score enough goals and we are strong and well drilled defensively, but hey ho, Merson predicts they will score 2 without reply.
The man is a buffoon.
