Mike Ashley’s lawyer Andrew Henderson has issued a statement to Sky Sports in relation to the proposed takeover of Newcastle United following news today that Amanda Staveley and her PCP Partners firm has signed a non-disclosure agreement with the club.
Since Monday’s big announcement, takeover talk has been the talk of the town. Several parties have emerged with potential interest, however it has been Amanada Staveley who appears to have been making the most headway if reports are the be believed.
Having now signed a non-disclosure agreement with the club, it’s understood she and her PCP Partners firm have joined FOUR other parties in agreeing a confidential agreement with the club, with confirmation that the due diligence period is now set to commence as a result.
In light of this development, Andrew Henderson – Mike Ashey’s lawyer – has offered the following update in a statement to Sky Sports this afternoon:
“Since Monday, a number of additional parties have come forward which we believe to be credible.”
“We are also continuing to engage with a number of parties with whom we had entered into negotiations prior to Monday’s announcement.”
It’s worth mentioning that Sky Sports have reported that Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners are understood to be taking a close look at as many as ‘three Premier League clubs’ – with one believed to be Liverpool.
It is believed that Newcastle are her favoured option, and progress is clearly being made, but with accounts needing to be checked in the due diligence period and an all important offer needing to be accepted, there’s still a way to go yet.
Exciting stuff, but it’d be wise for us all to stay grounded until a formal offer is accepted by Mike Ashley – that’s what it’ll all boil down to at the end of the day!
