Rafa Benitez’s response when asked about the possibility of managing Spain or Liverpool in the future

Speaking to Spanish newspaper MARCA today, Rafa Benitez has responded to questions surrounding the Spanish national job or a potential return to Liverpool some day, with the Spaniard insisting that he isn’t considering it, reiterating his desire to achieve things on Tyneside over the coming years – and even suggesting that we could be his last club.

Here’s his response when asked about the possibility of managing the Spanish national side one day or returning to Liverpool at some stage in his career:

“I always say the same with respect: for the moment I don’t consider it.

“I am happy here and I have years of contract. It depends on how my career evolves, we will go on one side or the other.

“If we do it here very well, we can finish the work in these parts; and if not, obviously, the selection can be a footnote.

“You have to leave it there, and see what happens in a few years. And the same in relation to Liverpool. It depends. Maybe I’m still here and I’m not moving anymore.”

A solid response from Benitez, who clearly intends to finish the job he’s started at Newcastle, suggesting he will see where we are at in a ‘few years’ – even admitting that he may end up ‘not moving’ from Newcastle United!

The job he has done so far has been phenomenal. He has helped us back into the top flight at the first time of asking and our early season form has been superb, propelling us to 7th in table. Hopefully a takeover (and the right one at that!) can happen and give Benitez the resources he needs to continue our progression and make us a force again.

This is a project Rafa firmly believes in, but it is only achievable if he is given the right backing and an owner who matches his ambitions for the club – something Mike Ashley is clearly incapable of giving him.

Regarding the takeover, Amanda Staveley and co are believed to be in the due diligence phase as we speak, therefore we must patiently await the outcome of that and hope that an acceptable formal offer arrives as a result.

Promising times ahead at NUFC and some pretty reassuring comments here from the gaffer!

  1. Rafa would crawl backwards over broken glass to manage Liverpool again, and the Geordies know it. If Liverpool get rid of Klopp and go in for Rafa, he will be gone.

I can tell how much he still loves Liverpool – and rightly so, but if we get new owners and he can start properly building at NUFC, he won’t just up sticks. He’s got big plans here and now he looks set to outlast Ashley, I don’t see him leaving unless doubts resurface.
