Seven years ago to the day, Shola Ameobi scored twice in our 5-1 derby win over Sunderland at St James’, and last night, brother Sammy scored from 25-yards to help bottom of the league Bolton earn a 3-3 draw at the Stadium of Light – a result that has seen Sunderland sack Simon Grayson!
Priceless scenes, and signs that scoring against Sunderland really does run in the family for the Ameobi’s! The really do love scaring the Mackems on Halloween, don’t they!
As you may know, Sunderland’s home form in 2017 has been nothing short of diabolical. They went into this one second bottom of the Championship, but would have been hoping for a win given opponents Bolton are the only team in the second tier below them – being without an away win in 33 attempts.
It was Sammy that opened the scoring in a game that ended 3-3, scoring this 25-yard corker thanks to a total lack of pressure from the Sunderland defence:

An Ameobi has come back to slay the Mackem’s once again it seems. Here’s some brilliant reactions to Sammy’s goal last night:
Sammy Ameobi just scored against the Mackems. The Ameobi name haunts Sunderland on Halloween yet again! ???

Not only have Sunderland gone behind again but it was a raker from Sammy Ameobi. At no point in 2017 have they led at home!

Yep that was awful it really hurt. But I guess getting best 6 in a row was a bummer too ?

I don’t know about that mate, the 5-1 at St James’ Park was pretty good..
Oh, and the fact that we aren’t heading towards League One softens that blow too! 😳

Sunderlands biggest ever achievment 6 in a row…really ? That will keep you warm on a cold Tuesday night down Gillingham next season!
