Benitez gives barbaric assessment of Jack Colback as he discusses the NUFC midfielder’s situation

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game with Bournemouth, Rafa Benitez has offered an absolutely brutal assessment of Jack Colback’s position at the club – claiming even NUFC defender Chancel Mbemba is ahead of him in the midfield pecking order!

It really has gone from bad to worse for the out of favour midfielder over the last 6 months and it is not getting any better.

Here’s the Spaniard’s pretty savage assessment of the midfielder’s situation at Newcastle, which all but ends any chance he may have had of making a comeback at the club:

“Without Merino out, we can play Mo Diame, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Henri Saivet.

“We’ll play Chancel Mbemba if needs be – he (Colback) knows the situation”

“He is training with the U23s at the Academy.

“He knows the situation and I will only concentrate on players I actually have.”

No way back for Colback then!

After an alleged fall out with Benitez over the summer, the former Sunderland midfielder had been told he was not in NUFC’s plans and was offered escape routes to Hull City and Wolves – but these loan moves were believed to be rejected by Jack due to alleged ‘geographical reasons’ however.

Colback made 29 appearances for us last season, however hasn’t made a single matchday squad since promotion, with his only outing in black and white this season coming in an U-23’s defeat to Wolves at St. James’ Park.

Just three days after that outing in the NUFC second string earlier in the season,  Colback was then told not to attend the first team photo shoot and was instead left to train with the reserves once again.
