Despite his undoubted ability, Jonjo Shelvey’s bad boy reputation and inconsistent displays on the pitch are probably the reason he’s yet to be handed an England call-up this season – however he MIGHT be handed his chance following the events of today around the England camp.
Harry Winks was forced to withdraw from the squad earlier today, but was replaced with West Brom’s Jake Livermore, however there’s been other injury news since that has left many wondering if Southgate will finally turn to Shelvey..

TWO more England central midfielder’s have just been forced to pull out of the squad, with Jordan Henderson and Fabian Delph ruled out.
This leaves Gareth Southgate with two more midfield roles to fill, begging the question – will Jonjo Shelvey now receive a call-up?
The likes of Jack Wilshere, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Tom Davies and Tom Cleverly are possible replacements, however Southgate has recently suggested he prefers not to pick players who are not playing each week for their club, potentially ruling out the first two.
It remains to be seen, but with all these injuries, it really does make me think; ‘if Shelvey doesn’t get called up now, maybe he never will!’
A squad update will be released later – we’ll keep you posted!
