Yet another ex-NUFC star left to regret their move away from St James’ Park

Ahead of this weekend’s visit of Watford, former full-back Daryl Janmaat looks set to miss out on the Hornets matchday squad once again – providing another example that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side ahead of his return to St James’ Park.

Janmaat jumped ship last summer following our relegation to the Championship, securing a £7.5m move to Watford, however the Dutch right-back has made just three appearances in all competitions this season.

Not only has he struggled to get into Marco Silva’s team, he was not even included in his matchday squad last weekend in their win over West Ham – with the Watford boss admitting he wasn’t injured, but instead was he left out for ‘technical’ reasons.

He would’ve been hoping to be making his return to St James’ Park this weekend – albeit in yellow not black and white – but the Hertfordshire Mercury claim he looks set to be miss out on Silva’s squad once again this weekend.

In all honesty, I’m quite glad he left. It allowed us to sign the younger, hungrier and far more athletic DeAndre Yedlin, however Janmaat himself may live to regret his move away from St James’ Park if he continues to be left out of Marco Silva’s plans.

If that does turn out to be the case, you can add him to a growing list of players whose careers have gone nowhere or stalled since leaving Tyneside; Debuchy, Remy, Enrique to name a few.
