Big claims emerge on the takeover front – a significant development or a big ploy from Mike Ashley?

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are now talking to ‘another interested party’ as well as Amanda Staveley and PCP, suggesting that a bidding war could be upon us with more than one party looking to take NUFC from Mike Ashley’s hands.

Now, this could well be the case, with several other parties having signed NDA’s before Staveley and PCP actually did, however myself and several other fellow NUFC fans have every right to be cynical about this.

The identity of this second party is not revealed by The Telegraph. It all seems rather convenient for Mr. Ashley. Could it be a PR move in an attempt to force Staveley’s hand and speed up a potential deal on her side, or is there actually genuine interest from another party?

Given a follow up bid is yet to arrive (to our knowledge anyway)since the first was rejected, and we’ve suffered an alarming defeat in the process, this could well be Ashley trying to move things on and entice another bid.

Time will tell, but for now, quite a few are understandably sceptical.

One thing’s for sure, recent results, Rafa’s comments and our need to invest in January mean a takeover can’t come quick enough.
