North-East correspondent Craig Hope (Mail) has revealed that Rafa Benitez has made an enquiry to bring Man Utd outcast Luke Shaw to Tyneside in January, however we look unable to afford their £20m asking price – meaning we could return with a loan offer at the end of the window is he is still available.
A £20m fee would represent a £11.5m loss on the 22-year old left-back for Man Utd, with Shaw having signed for £31.5m just over three years ago.
He’s made just two substitute appearances so far this season (both coming in the Cup), with injuries having plagued his Manchester Utd career up until this point.
Providing he stayed fit, he’d be a real coup for us on loan, however any hopes of a permanent signing would have to be shelved unless a takeover was completed. Mike Ashley will do well to pay the loan fee and wages that Shaw would demand, never mind the £20m fee!
Man Utd prepared to take £11.5m loss to offload Luke Shaw in Jan. NUFC enquired but can't afford £20m asking price. May return with loan offer in late Jan. https://t.co/lxtadG60c1

He’s a good young player who needs a move to revitalise a career that once looked so promising. A loan deal just MIGHT be possible, but in this day and age, there could easily be a team willing to pay £20m for a player of his potential in January – meaning we’d almost certainly miss out once again.
Would you be keen to see Rafa bring the England left-back to the club in January if a loan move could be agreed?
