High-flying Wolves set to make big money move for NUFC star in January?

According to the Birmingham Mail, high-flying Wolves are looking for a proven Championship striker to seal their promotion to the top flight and have identified Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle as a top target ahead of the January transfer window.

Wolves are looking unstoppable at the top of the Championship and are 10 points clear of third place, however former Porto boss Nuno Espírito Santo appears to be keen to add to his striking options to make sure of their place in the Premier League next season.

With 23 goals in 32 league appearances last season, Gayle was one of the top strikers in the Championship last year and is believed to ‘feature highly’ in Wolves’ thinking ahead of the January window according to the Birmingham Mail.

Having spent £13m on Helder Costa in January and breaking their club record to bring in Porto’s Ruben Neves for £15m over the summer, Wolves clearly have the money to spend.

Gayle has scored two goals in his last three, making him our joint top scorer, but I get the feeling Rafa would cash in IF the price was right and a replacement was found. We lack striking options as it is, so it wouldn’t be straight forward, but I think Benitez would sanction his sale if it allowed him to bring in a new number 9 of his choice for the Premier League.

With Fulham having had a £15m bid rejected for Gayle on deadline day, what price tag would you put on his head ahead of Wolves’ alleged January interest?
