It’s that time of the week again. Football ‘experts’ Paul Merson and Mark Lawronsen have made their predictions for Leicester City’s visit to St James’ Park this weekend’s and the pair are predicting very different outcomes.
Merson predicting a loss (shock), but former Man of the Day man Mark Lawrenson is backing an NUFC win!
Here’s what the duo have had to say ahead of our home clash with Claude Puel’s in-form Leicester City this weekend, starting with the thoughts of Sky’s Paul Merson:
“Newcastle are not on a good run at the moment, and they really need a win here, but Leicester are a dangerous team.
“Newcastle will have to go at Leicester, and they could be picked off, like Bournemouth did to them.
“Leicester have bought into Claude Puel’s thinking. Jamie Vardy is back and Riyad Mahrez looks like he fancies it again. Away win.”
Merson’s prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Leicester
Nice on Paul. A very possible outlook. Hopefully we prove him wrong this time around however.
Now to Mark Lawrenson, who shared his thoughts on the game via BBC’s official site yesterday:
“Newcastle’s poor run continued with their defeat at Chelsea, and they have now taken only one point from their past six matches.
“Leicester, in contrast, beat Burnley to maintain their improvement under Claude Puel. The Foxes are ninth in the table, which is around where they should be.
“I just fancy Newcastle to edge this one, though.
“Benitez has made his feelings clear about the limitations of his squad but he is still usually very good at negating the opposition’s main strength. His side need a win, and I think they will get one.”
Lawro’s prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Leicester
That’s more like it – not that Mark gets them right very often.
Let us know your predictions folks – how do you see this one panning out at St James’ tomorrow?
Can’t see past a comfortable Leicester win, way too much quality for Newcastle who offer nothing in attack. Newcastle are a very poor side and there will be a gulf in quality tomorrow, just like there was the last couple of occasions we met.
