Kevin Mbabu scores stunning solo goal for new club – Was Rafa right to sell the Swiss speedstar?

To many fans dismay, Rafa Benitez allowed promising young full-back Kevin Mbabu leave over the summer, with the 22-year old joining Swiss giants BSC Young Boys for an undisclosed fee.

The quick yet combative full-back may have picked up 7 yellow cards already this season in Switzerland, but he’s bagged an impressive 2 goals and 5 assists too!

Here’s his superb solo goal for Young Boys over the weekend:

Realistically, he’d never appeared enough for us to convincingly say that we were stupid to sell him, however he looked to have the makings of a very decent full-back and one I hoped Rafa could develop.

He showed he was able to do a job at left-back (remember that night he had Pedro in his pocket at SJP) and is naturally a marauding right-back, so it makes you wonder if he could’ve done just as good a job as new recruit Javier Manquillo?

Maybe playing every week and the poor Swiss League is making him the player he looks to be in these clips, so it may never have worked for him if he stayed at Newcastle, it’s fair to say he looks a heck of a talent and a strange one to be letting go ( especially given our lack of full-back options) if these clips are to be believed:
