Paul Merson names the West Ham man NUFC ‘won’t be able to handle’ in his prediction for tomorrow’s game

Sky Sports’ ‘football expert’ Paul Merson is back with a bang this week, not only predicting a 2-0 win for West Ham tomorrow, but claiming that he doubts we will be able to ‘handle’ in-form Hammers winger Marko Arnautovic.

Merson has had a tendency to not even mention us at all in his ‘assessment’ of the game in question, however he does acknowledge our ‘good performance’ against Arsenal last weekend – claiming we were unlucky to lose 1-0 against his former club.

He expects us to lose against the Hammers tomorrow however, stating that David Moyes is doing a ‘great job’ and doubting our ability to handle their £25m man Marko Arnautovic.

Here’s his full prediction on Sky Sports:

“Newcastle put in a good performance against Arsenal and were unlucky. You look at games like that and think ‘if you can play like that against Arsenal, why not against clubs lower down the league?’ You have to do it week-in-week-out, against teams around you.

“West Ham are playing really well. They were outstanding against Stoke. I am not sure Newcastle will be able to handle Marko Arnautovic. David Moyes is doing a great job.”

MERSON’S PREDICTION: West Ham 2-0 Newcastle

Funny really. Arnautovic may have woken up in West Ham’s recent revival, scoring in their last two wins over Chelsea and Stoke, however these are his only two goals for the club in 17 appearances so far this season.

His talent is undoubted, however he’s a streaky player whose been largely disappointing since becoming their record signing over the summer. He might turn up and be the difference, but he’s just as capable of being nowhere to be seen if his West Ham career so far is anything to go by.

He’s a maverick and could well prove Merson right, but with two goals all season, he’s not exactly been hitting these heights regularly. We shall we.
