Local reports claim NUFC are now ‘confident’ of making Chelsea man our first January signing

After January has begun with a frustrating few days on the transfer front, the Chronicle have offered some reassurance as far a deal for Chelsea’s Kenedy is concerned, claiming the club are optimistic that he will arrive once Chelsea secure new signings.

If recent reports are anything to go by, a deal for the Brazilian wide-man has been agreed in principle, however his move to Tyneside looks set to be activated once Antonio Conte signs a player to cover his departure.

Despite it being delayed, Mark Douglas of the Chronicle has revealed today that there is now some renewed ‘optimism’ at NUFC surrounding a deal for the 21-year old:

“Chelsea player Kenedy is likely to join as soon as the Blues secure reinforcements. There is some optimism about that deal – even if it has been delayed.”

Kenedy is a versatile player who can operate in any position down the left-hand side. He’s been restricted to cup appearances for Chelsea so far this term, however Chelsea fans seem to rate him as a player with real potential from what I’ve read.

There’s no doubt we need some proven quality and experienced heads in this month, and although Kenedy appears to be neither, he will add to our limited options down the left – with him being able to play at left-back, wing-back or on the left-wing.

He’s been described by Chelsea fans I’ve spoken to as a quick and skilful player who they believe could improve under Benitez’s watchful eye. He’s also surprisingly tall for a player of his style and position, standing at just over 6ft tall.

Keep your eyes on incomings at Chelsea folks. Any left-sided arrival at Stamford Bridge looks set to see Kenedy holding up the black and white shirt.

Here’s him in Carabo Cup action against Everton earlier this season:
