Jamaal Lascelles has offered some much needed reassurance to NUFC fans tonight, confirming on Twitter that he was only taken off as a precaution in today’s 3-1 win over Luton at St James’ Park.
The skipper was replaced by Isaac Hayden on the half hour mark and appeared to be holding his groin as he hobbled off, but it’s a huge relief to hear that it was purely a precautionary act to take no risks:
Good result today.. I’m fine Also, just precaution. Congrats @41Woodman41 on your debut ?? well done fella

This is great to hear, with Benitez clearly choosing not to risk such an important player ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash with bottom of the table Swansea at St James’. Also a class act from the captain to congratulation young Freddie Woodman after his NUFC debut today.
Here’s what Rafa Benitez has had to say on his situation after the game:
“He’s fine. It was just a precaution because he was complaining a little bit about his adductor and then we decided to make the substitution.”
Great news. Lascelles is a massive presence at the back for us and to lose him would’ve been a huge blow ahead of one of our biggest games of the season next Saturday.
No surprise ,once he went off our defense seemed to be a little more nervous……he has a calming and controlling ability…enabling us to play football further up the pitch, I think we’ve only conceded a couple of goals in the games he has played in since coming back……..a definite starter every game for me and will be needed in our push up the league to safety.
