According to the Birmingham Mail, both Aston Villa and Leeds could be set to make a move to sign Jack Colback, with the NUFC midfielder having been told by Benitez that he’s free to leave the club this month.
The 28-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the first team this season and looks almost certain to have played his last game for the club.
He’s believed to have turned down Championship offers over the final days of the summer window, with it being claimed that he was reluctant to leave the North-East, however the former Sunderland man may have to take what he can get this month if he wants to save his career.
This isn’t the first time Villa have been linked, which is no surprise given Colback featured heavily when Bruce was in charge of the Mackems, whilst promotion chasing Leeds are also in the mix according to reports from the Midlands.
I’d expect him to be sold for quite a low fee, but with him said to earn around £40,000 a week, his sale would be in the best interests of all parties to create room for much needed January additions.
Given our fear over a lack of January spending, selling Colback and co. could be essential this month..
So, Ashley is funding January, so basically #NUFC need to sell to buy.
Good, Haidara, Aarons, Colback, Saivet and Mitrovic should bring in around £20m plus £150k wages.
Get them sold ASAP.
