Aleksandar Mitrovic ‘opens discussions’ with potential new club ahead of anticipated NUFC exit

According to reports in France, Bordeaux have opened talks with Aleksandar Mitrovic’s entourage ahead of a potential move to the Ligue 1 side – however a deal could be dependant on the asking-price NUFC demand for the Serbian striker.

The story originates from French outlet RMC, who claim that the 23-year-old has now entered talks with Bordeaux, although they are thought to be ‘pessimistic’ about a deal being agreed due to the fee they fear we will demand.

Mitrovic has missed the festive period with a back injury, and although Rafa initially suggested he’d be out for ’10 days’, it’s been closer to 20 that he’s missed – with him absent from the squad once again for Saturday’s cup tie with Luton. A convenient ‘injury’ so he’s being protected in a bid to secure a move this month? Perhaps.

He could well have played his last game for NUFC, however I only expect the club to sell him once a replacement has been signed – and I don’t expect that to happen anytime soon given Rafa STILL doesn’t appear to know his budget!

The predicted fee also seems to be the big issue as far as Bordeaux are concerned. He’s certainly not set the world alight on Tyneside, so his stock has fallen to some extent, however prices have rocketed since he arrived and he is still a very young striker who continues to score hatfuls for his country.

I doubt he’ll move to Bordeaux, but his exit (on loan or permanently) could be triggered by any arrivals up top for us this month. There’ll certainly be plenty interest.

  1. Why won’t he be sold till a replacement is found for him? The poor lad doesn’t get a game anyway. Rafa doesn’t like the lad and prefers Joselu even tho the idiot is beyond useless. I wish Mitro luck wherever he goes. He deserves to play
