Jamaal Lascelles makes strong claims about some ex-NUFC players in brilliant FA Cup interview

Speaking about our FA Cup win over Luton at the weekend, Jamaal Lascelles has admitted that every player wanted to play on Saturday – stating that this wouldn’t have been the case in the past, with former players likely to have been keen to get a weekend off instead.

Some more brilliant home truths delivered from the skipper, whose probably hit the nail on the head about some former players here. It’s not just about Benitez fielding a strong team on Saturday to take the FA Cup seriously this season, it’s about the whole squad being raring to go – unlike some ex-players who may have seen it as nothing other than a chance to put their feet up!

Here’s what Jamaal had to say when speaking to the Chronicle. Love this:

‘We want to go out there and win and see how far we can get.’

“It’s not like the Championship when you are playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. You usually only play once a week in the Premier League, so it’s not as if you need to rest players.”

“The players are happy with that – we want to play. He didn’t have to rest anyone because we don’t have another game for a week.

“In the past some players may have looked to have this weekend off after the busy period. It certainly wouldn’t happen now. Everybody wants to play and is pleased to be picked – that wasn’t always the case.”

It’s great to hear from the skipper. Not just the fact that we are taking the cup seriously this season, but to hear that we now have a close knit group that care and want to be on the pitch for each and every game.

Lascelles then went on, discussing just how the bond between the players in the squad will help them on the pitch:

“We have a good group of lads here and everyone wants the same thing. We all work hard and we are friends on and off the pitch, as you can tell from the football we try to play.

“OK, results haven’t always gone great for us recently but at the same time we are playing good football. Not many teams score too many goals past us.”

Brilliant stuff from the skipper once again. He will get the praise for speaking out so well once again, but the entire squad deserves a pat on the back for the refreshing attitude we’re seeing around the club these days.

They’re all in it together as Lascelles says and that will only help us in our bid for survival.
