According to an article in the Daily Mail this morning, Benitez is exploring the possibility of bringing PSG stopper Kevin Trapp in on loan this month, with the German international looking for a January move after just three appearances this season.
The story states that Rafa is looking to bring in a ‘top level keeper’ in a bid to strengthen our defence for the second half of the season.
Trapp is a 27-year-old German international and has previously been PSG’s number one over recent years, however the form of Alphonse Areola (a man linked with NUFC over the summer!) has restricted him to cup appearances this season.
Interestingly, Simon Jones of the Mail states that Benitez has asked about Joe Hart, but Moyes does not want to end his loan deal, whilst Real Madrid’s back up stopper Kiko Casilla is described to be ‘another option’ for NUFC.
Benitez is yet to be told his budget (and I imagine it’ll be a small one if and when he finds out), so it seems we’re looking at ambitious loan deals this month in a bid to strengthen our hand best we can.
Trapp falls into that category, however we’d do well to pull off that deal..
Here’s him in action nonetheless:
