According to reports in France, Newcastle have seen a derisory offer of €6m (£5.3m) dismissed by Rennes for Congolese forward Firmin Mubele.
This rumour would appear to be little dubious if it’s true that Benitez STILL doesn’t know his budget, however it does sound very typical of us to put in a cheeky offer.
Mubele is a 23-year-old forward who can also play out wide or up top, with him having 8 goals and 1 assist to his name in 31 appearances so far for Rennes. Hardly sounds like the proven striker who’ll solve our goalscoring problems, does he?

To make things worse, Goal France claim that Premier League rivals Bournemouth have since had a €12m (£10.7m) offer rejected, with the Ligue 1 side said to be holding out for an offer of €15m (£13.4m).
Seems a lot for a player who is anything but proven, however Goal France claim they are keen to receive a heft fee due to 20% of it set to go to his former club Al Ahli – the Qatar side he joined Rennes from in the summer of 2016.
In all honesty, we doubt there’s a great deal of truth in this, but then again, it wouldn’t surprise me if we’ll be offering little over the £5-6m mark if we are to make any attempts to pull of permanent deals this month. Loans seem our best bet.
Incase this one holds any truth, here’s Mubele in action:
We have a “derisory” owner. What can we do?
