Reputable North-East reporter claims NUFC will open talks with ‘highly-rated’ striker in the next 24 hours

Not the striker we were hoping to sign this summer, but North-East correspondent Craig Hope has revealed that Newcastle are set to open talks with Young Boys striker Yannick Toure in the next 24 hours.

The 17-year-old Senegalese born forward is described as one of the brightest talents in Switzerland and would be available for a compensation fee (as he’s yet to sign a new contract with Young Boys).

Given our desperate need for a proven scorer this month, this is hardly the breakthrough we were hoping for, although the signing of such a bright talent would be considered a decent coup for the club – with Hope stating that Arsenal and Juventus have both been tracking him.

The Mail actually first reported our interest in Toure back in November, and it looks like we’re about to make it concrete in the next 24 hours, with Hope expecting talks to take place on Friday.

He already stands at a sturdy 6ft 1 and has 24 goals in 25 games at U-18 level and 7 goals in 14 games for Young Boys at U-21 level. He’s obviously not the answer to our goalscoring problems right now, but given the state of our youth set up, he’d seem like a very promising addition.

Here’s a little clip of him in action for the Swiss side:
