Sky Sports: West Ham ‘happy’ to do swap deal with NUFC after being offered Chancel Mbemba

According to Sky sources, Newcastle have offered Chancel Mbemba to West Ham – and the Hammers are said to be ‘happy’ to include striker Diafra Sakho in any potential deal for the centre-back.

It had been suggested that the Senegalese striker could be set for an £11m move to Crystal Palace, however it was stated yesterday that we could make a ‘late move’ to bring him to St James’ Park.

Mbemba, like Mitrovic, does not appear to be in Benitez’s long-term plans and although they’re very rare in this day and age, a potential swap deal or part exchange could make a lot of sense for both parties.

Before we discuss why, here’s what Sky have had to say on their live transfer page today:

To put it simply, we want a striker and they want a centre-back. We don’t seem to have the means to spend £11m on Sakho, but swapping Mbemba for him would allow us to pull of this deal and bring in a forward without outlaying a great deal of cash.

It still seems a little bit dubious given the rarity of these deals happening, but you can see why Newcastle would be looking to do this.

Let us know your thoughts folks – is this a deal you’d be happy to do with the Hammers?

  1. Can’t understand why Rafa never rated chancel, but if he isn’t going to use him…. a swap may be one way forward.

  2. Why would we want him when, despite the paper talk, our priority is central midfielders? Besides, how is recruiting a player who can’t get in Toons starting XI going to improve us? I’ve heard he can’t speak a word of English so doesn’t follow on pitch instructions, culminating in him giving the ball away frequently (We already have plenty of players who do that) which is why Rafa doesn’t rate him. Wouldn’t be a swap anyway since Sully values Sakho at least £5M higher than Chancel.
