Jim White provides intriguing update on Amanda Staveley and PCP’s current takeover stance

We’ve been listening in to TalkSPORT this morning, and broadcaster Jim White has stated that ‘nothing has changed’ in the eyes of Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners, claiming they are STILL ‘very interested’ in buying Newcastle United despite last night’s news.

Unless you’ve been hidden under a rock for the past 18 hours, you will know that Mike Ashley claimed to have pulled the plug on takeover talks with Staveley and PCP, with a statement from sources close to Ashley and all media outlets reporting that a deal was now off.

Several claims and counter claims have been made on the matter since, but Jim White’s admission on TalkSPORT this morning is an interesting one, which may give us the slightest glimmer of hope that a deal could be resurrected?

It feels like a long shot given how Ashley’s blunt statement stated talks had been ‘exhausting, frustrating and a complete waste of time’ (the words of a man whose now burnt bridges?), however the Chronicle have admitted since that Staveley is thought to be ‘devastated’ over the prospect of missing out on a deal.

We shall see, but in a period where negativity and dread is rife at Newcastle, it is promising to hear that their interest might STILL exists – however they’ll need to seriously up their bid if there’s to be any hope of rekindling a deal.

  1. Mr. Ashley is an expert at creating attention for himself and his businesses. In my opinion this is just another “look at me” plea. I take any and all claims of a deal, end of deal, money for transfers etc. etc. As pie in the sky (no pun intended) it’s all about wait and see with these people but I don’t think Rafa will be patient much longer.

  2. Two Rich people having a spat about what they want to pay. If Amanda and PCP really want Newcastle United they will come back with an improved bid if not then I think it is safe to assume PCP were just after making a Quick buck. Ashley has spat his dummy out because he has not got an offer which matches his own valuation after months of exhaustive negoations in which the last three weeks he spent in the energy sapping heat of holiday resorts in Florida USA. Is there another buyer in the background or was this a bluff by Ashley well we will soon find out. Above all we the fans want is someone who will invest in the playing staff and the club, the rest is just smoke and mirrors and that is something the fans are used too under Ashley’s ownership.
