As we await some much needed news on the striker front, trusted North East correspondent George Caulkin has been responding to some NUFC fans on Twitter and has revealed that NUFC are currently looking at other options to Nicolai Jorgensen.
As we know, we’ve had £13m and £15m bids for the Feyenoord striker rejected up until this point, and as Caulkin confirms in his series of tweets below, it appears that the two clubs are ‘miles apart on money’. It’s been suggested that they want at least £20m for the Dane, so we really will have to up our bid considerably if we plan to have any success on that front.
Interestingly, George states that we are now ‘looking elsewhere’ and insists that he is ‘quite optimistic’ that a new striker will arrive despite this being a ‘desperate month’ to do deals.
Here’s some of his responses to NUFC fans this morning:
As I said yesterday, they’re looking elsewhere than Jorgensen at the moment, but they are looking – Rafa is still pushing. I’m quite optimistic and I’m NEVER optimistic.

My ‘optimism’ is informed, put it that way. It could all come to nothing and nobody would be surprised, but this isn’t the same as a year ago when Rafa said he wanted to strengthen & nothing happened. He set Jorgensen up & club won’t pay, but there are still options.

Nothing is ever dead – this is a desperate month – but they were miles apart on money and started pursuing others a couple of days ago. That’s my info.

Interesting to see that we started looking at other targets a few days ago and that George (who admits to often being pessimistic) is actually optimistic about our chances of signing a new striker..
Let us know what you make of this folks!
