Paul Merson predicts nightmare scenario at NUFC tomorrow night

The infamous Paul Merson has had his say ahead of tomorrow night’s visit of Burnley and has predicted the Clarets to come away with a 1-0 win during his latest column on Sky Sports.

The negativity around NUFC right now makes tomorrow’s game difficult to read, but it’s worth mentioning that, aside from the defeats to Man City and Arsenal, we’re actually unbeaten in 7 in the league – while Burnley have failed to win any of their last eight matches (including seven in the league).

Anyway, here’s what Merson’s said during his weekly piece on Sky Sports:

“This is another massive football match.

“Newcastle went out of the cup at the weekend so it’s another year without a trophy.

“Newcastle will be under pressure to bounce back against Burnley at St James’ Park.

“Burnley have hit a bit of a brick wall of late. Their results have started to level out after what was an unbelievable start to the season.

“However, I thought they were very unlucky against United (Manchester) and could have even sneaked a draw.

“With another performance like that, I’m backing them to sneak a win.”

Prediction: Newcastle 0-1 Burnley

The most frustrating thing about this game is it was a game I was hopeful of winning – yet our lack of activity in the transfer market will no doubt hang a grey cloud over St James’ Park tomorrow night.

Imagine if we’d signed Sturridge or unveiled Jorgensen as the club’s new club record buy? We’d all be coming into the game in a much more positive frame of mind, yet come tomorrow night it’s likely that we’ll be ‘closed for business’ without a striker to show for it.

Hopefully Merson gets another one of his predictions wrong, however I would agree that this is a ‘massive football match’.
