Rafa Benitez makes announcement on his NUFC future during deadline day message to the fans

Rafa Benitez has confirmed that he will not walk away from the club, even if Mike Ashley fails to deliver some much needed signings today – stating that he has a responsibility to the fans, players and the club to stay on Tyneside and give everything for Newcastle United.

The gaffer is clearly frustrated that we have arrived on deadline day with top targets missed, no striker in sight and a frantic feeling around the club when he clearly wants to focus solely on three points against Burnley – however it is reassuring, in the short term at least, to hear he’ll be staying.

Here’s what he’s had to say when asked about his NUFC future, confirming that he will remain committed to the club no matter what, with him maintaining the he has the ‘belief’ and ‘confidence’ that we can bring players in, beat Burnley tonight and stay up this season:

“My future is very simple and very clear,”

“Still we have one day for doing business. After that, still we can analyse where we are but I don’t think that will change too much because I have a responsibility to the fans, with the players, with the club so it is not just personal.

“I have had the same situation a few years ago when I was at Liverpool and Real Madrid approached me and I gave my word to the players that I would stay. Sometimes, you just have to say ‘ok, I will do what I have to do.’

“I have the belief and confidence that even in the more difficult circumstances, still we can stay up and we try to think about that but hopefully, we will have something coming before the end of the transfer window and feel much better and we have three points.”

I don’t know where we’d be without this bloke. He’ll be as frustrated as anyone right now, but this message of reassurance to NUFC fans on a day where so many doubts will emerge is huge.

He by no means assures us of his long-term commitment to the club, but he’s not about to walk if the club don’t deliver today – and that’s something so many fear.

He clearly wants to stay here, with him mentioning last week about his love for the city, the fans and the club, however he’d be crazy to commit to any new deal and a long-term future under Ashley when you see how he’s been lied to up until now.

Anyway, here’s hoping for some much needed good news on the transfer front today and three points later on tonight. A huge day for NUFC.

  1. Ashley doesn’t deserve Rafa
    Ashley doesn’t deserve NUFC
    Ashley doesn’t deserve publicity
    That’s all he’s about
    Bringing the attention to him
He sees no publicity is bad publicity
We are putty in his hands
