Rafa Benitez hits back at Jack Colback after the midfielder’s bold claims about his treatment at NUFC

Rafa Benitez has suggested that Jack Colback’s comments about his unfair treatment at NUFC were completely false, stating that he and the club treat the midfielder with ‘total respect’ and not ‘like a number’ as the 28-year-old recently claimed.

After sealing a loan move to Nottingham Forest on deadline day, Colback claimed there’d been ‘no respect’ shown his way whatsoever over the past few months on Tyneside, saying it was disappointing for him being ‘treated like a number more than a human being’.

Before his move to the second tier last month, Colback has been nowhere to be seen at NUFC, with his only appearances coming in  U-23 games and him also being famously excluded from the teams squad photo.

Following his outspoken comments and his questions over the club’s handling of his situation at the club, Rafa Benitez has hit back at the midfielder, denying claims that he was wrongly treat.

“I have a responsibility and it’s just to concentrate on football, so I will not get into this, but I will tell you that we treated him 100 per cent with total respect.

“I am telling you that we treated him with 100 per cent total respect. A lot of respect.”

We don’t know the truth in all of this, but Benitez seems pretty adamant here that Jack was treated with a lot of respect, essentially calling him a liar over his comments following a move to Forest.

Benitez may be ruthless, but he doesn’t strike me as a bloke who’d totally ostracise a player like Colback without having a good reason to do so.
