Latest reports claim NUFC had £7m January bid rejected for Dutch attacker – summer move expected

According to reports in Turkey, Newcastle had a €8m (£7.1m) bid rejected for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues last month and could return for him in the summer with an improved offer.

Turkish Football claim that this was our second offer for the Dutch born wide man, stating that an offer of £6m was rejected back in the summer – meaning we’d only upped our offer by £1m last month if these reports are true. Stinks of Mike Ashley, doesn’t it!

Rodrigues, born in Rotterdam but capped by Cape Verde, is a winger known for his lightning pace who can play anywhere across the front three. He joined Galatasaray last January and has racked up 5 goals and 10 assists since then.

Whilst Ashley didn’t seem all that willing to put his hand in his pocket for permanent buys last month, there is the possibility that Rodrigues was seen as an alternative to Kenedy in our list of left-wing targets.

After having £6m and £7m offers rejected, it is claimed that we could return in the summer with an improved offer, so this could be one to watch – although big things have to be taken care of in the mean time before we start wondering who we might be signing in a few months time!

Nevertheless, here’s him in action:
