He may be yet to kick a ball for Newcastle United, but Leicester loanee Islam Slimani has been named in the official Carabo Cup Team of the Tournament, with the Algerian scoring 4 goals in 3 games for the Foxes during the competition.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City won the cup at Wembley yesterday, beating Arsenal 3-0 in an emphatic victory. Although Sergio Aguero got on the scoresheet again last night, it is NUFC’s Islam Slimani whose ended the tournament as the joint top scorer.
He’s level on four goals with Leeds’ Samuel Saiz and Norwich’s Josh Murphy – the twin brother of Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy:

Slimani scored 2 in Leicester’s 4-1 away win at Sheffield Utd in the 2nd round, scored 1 in their 2-0 home win over Liverpool in the 3rd round and then got another in the Foxes 3-1 win over Leeds in the 4th round.
An impressive goalscoring record, however he’ll only be of use to us when he gets fit. Let’s hope he is sooner rather than later!
