Pundit admits Ashley is ‘unlikely’ to sell the club but reveals why NUFC will stay up this season

Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has had his say on Newcastle United ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Anfield, stating that Benitez will keep us up, but that owner Mike Ashley now feels ‘unlikely’ to sell – even if he doesn’t want to be here.

Collymore is of course  the man who broke the hearts of the Toon Army over 20 years ago, with his late winner at Anfield proving to be an arrow in the heart for Kevin Keegan’s charge for the Premier title back in 1996.

He’s not predicting heartache this season for Newcastle, expecting Rafa to keep us up, however he remains unsure about Mike Ashley, feeling he looks ‘unlikely’ to sell up despite having no interest in staying at the club.

Here’s what he had to say to BetStars about the current situation at NUFC:

“Rafa Benitez will keep Newcastle up. I think the performance against Manchester United showed that he now has them fighting as a team, as individuals and as a group.”

“The players that have come in have done quite well, he’s been working on a tight budget and we still don’t know whether Mike Ashley will sell the club to another consortium.”

“It’s looking unlikely but Mike Ashley himself doesn’t really want to stay at the football club.”

“Rafa has had to wheel and deal in that kind of environment but there are three worse sides than Newcastle United in the Premier League.”

“And and I think they will take their place alongside the other nineteen clubs in the Premier League this time next year.”

Staying up is the first and biggest goal to begin with, but the long-term goal is seeing the back of Mike Ashley.

Let’s hope Stan proves to be right about us staying up and wrong about Ashley!
