‘He shouldn’t be playing in the division’ – Manager sends message to NUFC over Aleksandar Mitrovic

After scoring two goals against his Sheffield United side last night, Blades boss Chris Wilder has admitted that Aleksandar Mitrovic shouldn’t be playing in the Championship for Fulham- stating he is an ‘outstanding player’ who should be playing in the Premier League with Newcastle.

Prior to Fulham’s ninth straight home win and 3-0 victory over Sheffield United last night, Mitrovic had scored 3 in his last 3 against promotion chasing Bristol City, Wolves and Derby.

Some NUFC were already wondering at this point if Rafa had made a mistake letting Mitro go, but these thoughts only intensified when he added another two to his tally in a performance that clearly impressed the Sheffield United boss.

Here’s what Chris Wilder had to say about the Serbian after his sides comprehensive defeat at Craven Cottage last night:

“He shouldn’t be playing in the division,”

“He should be playing at Newcastle. He has made the decision to drop down.

“Mitrovic is an outstanding player and thankfully we won’t be coming up against him in the next 11 games.

“He’s going to the World Cup, Newcastle paid what for him? £15million. He should be playing in the Premier League.

Some very complimentary comments from the opposition manager here, with him clearly feeling that Mitrovic is too good for the Championship and a player Newcastle should be starting.

Many fans would agree, however it is worth reminding fans that he is scoring goals in a league that Dwight Gayle got 23 in – and he’s been called a Championship player by many of our own!

An attacking, expansive Fulham side are getting the best out of him and giving him the perfect platform to score goals and play to his potential. Why can’t Rafa do this you may ask? Well this is something Benitez is unable to replicate in a plucky Premier League side fighting for their life at the bottom with 40% possession most weeks.

It’s impressive from Mitrovic and is great to see, but the above has to be understood by fans who are suddenly seeing the Serbian as the answer to all our problems..

  1. You just don’t get it , mitro would score goals in any division he played in , but first you have to play him , Gayle has always been a championship player , he only scored fifteen goals in three years previous to Newcastle .If you don’t give a player a run in the team how the hell can he score

So Gayle scored an average of 5 goals per season, was in/out and sometimes used as a winger. In 2015-16 Mitro made 36 appearances (34 in Prem), scoring only 9 goals. His very regular failure to hit the proverbial barn door saw us relegated. Mitro then only scored 4 goals in 25 appearances in the Championship.
When opportunities arose for him to try to prove he should be first choice striker, he failed to take them.

So he’s scored as many in 4 games with Fulham than he scored in the whole of last season. Good. It will increase his value in the transfer market in the summer. Probably it will price him out of Fulham’s reach, but some Prem team scrapping for survival might be prepared to take a punt on his temperament.
