Benitez linked with summer move for La Liga midfielder ‘tempted’ by a move to St James’ Park

According to Spanish publication ‘AS’, Rafa Benitez is looking to bring Eibar midfielder Dani Garcia to Newcastle this summer once his contract expires with the La Liga side.

The report states that fellow Spanish sides Levante, Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao are admirers of Eibar skipper, however they claim that he is ‘tempted’ by a move to England, with both ourselves and Southampton credited with an interest in the soon to be free agent.

With NUFC loanees Jack Colback and Henri Saivet likely to have no future at the club, Mo Diame entering the final year of his contract and Isaac Hayden struggling to make an impact in the Premier League thus far, Rafa will no doubt be keen to strengthen his central midfield options this summer and it seems Garcia may be an option of his.

The defensive midfielder is a regular for the La Liga  overachievers, with Florian Lejeune’s former side currently lying in an impressive 9th place at present.

He is not known for his goals, scoring just twice in his last four seasons in Spain, but he could be considered as a shrewd free agent signing – not only being a captain but the sort of defensive minded midfielder our squad lacks.
